Happy Fall and Updates

Happy Fall Y'all!

We have been learning about Orange Shirt Day and how it originated.  Ask your child how the orange shirt became a symbol for "Every child matters".  

In Math we have continued to work on a problem of the day, skip counting, looking at calendars and adding 0 to a number.  

In Science we have looked at arc and beam bridges.  We learned that beam bridges are simple and quick to construct but have a weak point in the center.  Arc bridges take much more time to build but don't have a weak point and are therefore much stronger.

We have taken advantage of the sun and warm weather and practiced our soccer skills outside for gym.

Our creative skills and knowledge are kicking in as we continue to work on our Art Card project.  The students have been taking their time to produce the best card possible.

Yesterday was our first day of Running Club!  Congratulations to those of you who ran the 3km and made it back to school in time to eat your lunches.

Welcome to grades 2 and 3

Welcome to a new school year!  I will use this blog to showcase student work, communicate what we are learning about in class and give you dates of upcoming events.

We have begun the Jump Math program which grades 1-6 are participating in.  Each day from 10:15am-11:30 AM the grade 3students go to Mrs.Scherschel's class for Math and the grade 2s come to our class.  

In literacy we are working on a book report. We will be moving onto procedural writing in the coming weeks.  Our spelling programs will begin next week with weekly tests being given on Friday mornings.  Both Mrs.Scherschel's class and ours are reading the same book for our novel study "The Wild Robot".

In Social Studies we are investigating the needs of ourselves and others.  We will be looking at how people and communities work together to be happy and successful.
