-Swimming forms in agenda
-No school this Friday
-Valentines Day Party for our class Tuesday Feb. 14th
-Please return report card envelopes if you haven't already done so

Today we continued our work with the Paper Bag Princess.  Our focus has been identifying the main characters, setting, problem and solution.  Tomorrow will be will be writing facts about groundhogs (in preparation for Groundhogs Day).

We have been beginning our days with a "Problem of the Day".  These are Math problems that incorporate both addition and subtraction.  The grade 2s have a 2nd step to bring the problems up to a grade 2/3 level....some of the grade 1s complete these too!

In Art we completed our "hot" and "cold" pictures, they all look great!

Question for the day

What happens when the groundhog sees it's shadow?

Happy Chinese New Year

A huge thank you to Lauren and David (and their families) for sharing some of their culture, candies, and decorations with our class.  Our students have enjoyed learning about Chinese New Year this week.  Their writing, drawing and story telling is a tell tale sign of the level of great engagement.

More Skating and Farewell Elbow Park

Today we learned about the legend of Nian.  He was a monster that appeared each New Years Eve throughout China.  Students drew their own dragons and wrote facts about Nian.  The dragons they made will help keep Nian away (he hasn't been spotted in over 4000 years)!

In Science we took a glass of snow and measured the temperature.  We have noticed that as the snow melted the water level has gone down.  We have also noticed that the snow was -11 degrees when we stated but climbed up to over 10 degrees.

Tomorrow we say farewell to Elbow Park.  They will be beginning school at their old/new school next week.  We will miss them at lunch hour, after school care and during special events.  We wish them well in their new building.

Special Questions:

What were the things Nian was afraid of?
