Craison Experiment- Please comment

This morning in Science we experimented with soda water and craisons.  We talked about making predictions and that it is ok to make mistakes.  A few of us didn't want to make a prediction because we didn't want to be wrong.  This lead into a discussion of school being a safe place to make mistakes and learn from them.  After all that's why we're all here...to learn!   We then followed up by reading "It's Okay to Make Mistakes".  Tomorrow we will read "How Full Is Your Bucket".  Thank you Miss.B for finding the books in the Learning Commons to read to us!

Miss.B will officially be done her student teaching practicum this Friday.  We wish her the best of luck in her teaching career.  We are hopeful that she will join us on our Children's Festival field trip on Wed. May 24th.

Boys and Girls please comment below on what YOU saw happen with your craisons.

Math Fair, Eggs in Salt Water

Today Miss.B conducted a cool experiment on density and eggs.  First we put an egg into a container of water and watched in sink.  Secondly we put an egg into a container of really salty water.

Question of the day;

What happened to the egg when we put it into the salty water?

We continued to learn about Natural Resources in Saskatoon, Meteghan and Iqaluit.  We learned that some natural resources can give us food and clothing.

In gym we played games of badminton, most of us can get the birdie over the net now.

During Math we were able to have the grade 5 students look at and play our Math Fair games with us.

Making Boats Sink and Math Fair

This Friday morning every EG student will have a Math Fair project to share.  The projects will be held in the classrooms, please come out and play some games.

In Science Ms.B has continued to teach us about boats and buoyancy, today the students tried to sink their boats.  We learned that some objects such as rocks and paper clips are more dense and will sink a boat more quickly than other objects.

In L.A we completed our Earth Day Agamographs and shared ways we could be more Earth friendly.

Please continue to read daily with your child(ren).  We have just over 2 months left of school and we want to make sure that each child is reading with fluency, accuracy, understanding and confidence before they leave for the summer.

Have a great night,

Gwen

Math Fair, Water Displacement and Popsicles

This morning Miss.B taught us how to make origami boats.  We will look at the boats and figure out ways to make them sit both and lower in the water.  If your children have baths at night you can discuss water displacement with them when they get in and out of the water.

Next Friday April the 28th E.G will be hosting it's first Math Fair.  All of the students have been working hard on their displays as well as learning their games and teaching others how to play them. We would love to have as many parents as possible attend the fair from 9:00am-10:00am.  We worked for a solid 90 minutes on our Math Fair Projects with HUGE concentration, I am so proud of how each group is working together.

In gym we will be finishing up the badminton unit we began before the spring break.  Now that the nets are up students will be working on getting the birdie over the net.

Lastly, this morning we had a little popsicle party with the KG class.  Miss.Dodd and I have the same birthdays (but are over a decade apart!) and like to celebrate with our classes.  It's also a great way for the KG to get to know some of the grade 1 students.

Question of the day

What happens to the water level of the bathtub when you get in it?  Why does this happen?
