Cenotaph walk, Zoo School prep and what's been going on in class!

Wow a lot has been happening in our classroom!  The students have been very busy writing guides on how they can help Planet Earth.  I will be sharing these with you at parent teacher interviews.

Students have also just completed a Science test on Liquids, a sight word test on the dolch high frequent word list, a procedural writing test, a Math test, and a reading assessment.  I will share all of these with you at parent teacher interviews this week. These assessments are used to show progression in student development.

New Grade 1 Math learning goals - These learning concepts are what the grade 1s are working on at the moment.

New Grade 2 Math learning goals- These are the concepts the grade 2s are learning about.

We have been learning about Even Steven and Odd Todd and how to order numbers in ascending and
descending order.

Even Steven numbers are numbers that can divided into 2 equal parts (0, 2, 4, 6, 8)
Odd Todd numbers can not be divided into 2 equal groups (1, 3 , 5, 7, 9)

Science is all about magnets. Students will be looking for magnets in the environment and explaining how they are used.

In Social Studies we have been looking at landmarks in Calgary. Students were able to identify and name landmarks from a picture that they viewed.  They were also able to come up with their own landmarks.  We have discussed important landmarks such as Inukshuks and lighthouses, these landmarks help people find their way home.

Today Dawn Hardy came to visit us from the Calgary Zoo.  She talked to us about zoo etiquette, journaling at the zoo, things we may see or do at the zoo and even brought along some zoo biofacts.  We sketched the biofacts and tried to guess what animals they belonged to.  We felt ostrich feathers, and ibex antler, and woodland caribou antler, grizzly fur and camel fur.
