June 5th and 6th

WOW, it's only Tuesday but we've got a lot done in 2 days!

Yesterday we;
-noticed our caterpillars (larva) have gone into the next stage of their life cycle (pupa or chrysalis)
-wrote and illustrated the life cycle of a butterfly
-did our year end writing assessment (picture of the boy holding an orange in the photos below)
-drew a cube and triangular prism and write about their faces, edges, and corners
-did a MAJOR desk clean out.  In the photos below you can see some pretty messy desks (only one was tidy).  We talked about being organized for success and taking care of our property.

Today we;
-had an artist come in and work with us for the morning.  Thank you volunteers for joining us.
-came in 1st place for Math BINGO.  The question was,  "there are 3 periods in a hockey game, each period is 20 minutes, if no overtime is played how how minutes are played?"  This was pretty easy for many of the students.  We extended the question to "how long did players play if they played 3 whole games?"
-looked at symmetrical and non-symmetrical items
-used mirrors to complete a picture to make it symmetrical
-talked about bar, picto and tally graphs
-created our own graphs and surveyed the class to complete our graphs

Today was the last session for the spring Running Club.  I am so proud of each of the runners!  Each day we ran 3km along the Bow River increasing our speed and strength!  Congratulations runners.

Question of the day

What does symmetrical mean?
What symmetrical things can you see in the world around you?

  1. A symmetrical shape is if you cut it in half it would look the same. My computer, my baseball are symmetrical because when cut in half they are the same shape. -BRETT
