Butterfly Release and Home Sweet Home

Monday June 12th

Today we released our 8 butterflies.  Nine of the twelve made it through the chrysalis stage and 1 butterfly wasn't able to successfully shed it's shell and passed away.

Our class though it would be kinder to let the butterflies go then to keep them caged.  We did get to see them drink from the sugar water and eat from the orange.  It was really neat to see their proboscis in action.  As a teacher it makes me so proud when I can see the children apply the terms and concepts they've learned in Science to the world around them.

Today David turned 8 and yesterday Parker turned 7. Happy birthday boys!

A HUGE congratulations to all of the Run for Water runners.  You ALL helped raise money for water wells in Dengali, Ethiopia and had fun while doing it.  I was shocked to see some of you beat your parents!  Way to go Vian, Leonie, Helene, Lauren, Lily, Holt, Hugo, Chloe, and Tiernan!

Our daily Math BINGO will be wrapping up later this week.  The final results haven't been tallied HOWEVER we have had multiple 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishes.  More importantly we are working through tough problems, recognizing a problem isn't a problem if you can solve it in 2 seconds and growing in our confidence.

Tuesday June 13th

Today we;

-completed our butterfly life cycles
-had an extra music practice with our instruments to get ready for Thursday's performance
-solved 2 problem of the day questions
-worked on spelling
-began playing lacrosse in gym
-discussed what humans need to have a safe and comfortable home
-watched about 3 minutes of the Documentary "Happy" to see how another family lives (boy it made us thankful).
-began looking at what insects need to have a safe and comfortable home
-revisited our scrapbooks while Mrs.Helsen staples items in them (it's always fun to look back at our work from the year)

Sneaky Blog Question-

What is that "thing" that you might have in your house that could save your life?  Were you able to find it with your family?  Hint, it's NOT a smoke detector.

Have a great night!
