Nov. 28th

Our class received a letter from Santa today.  It said he was looking for a new reindeer to join his team.  We discussed what "applying for a job was" and what an "interview" might be.  The student responses of how adults get hired for jobs was pretty funny;

1) you don't need to go to high school but just be smart
2) go to University and then more university and then you can get a job
3) you pay someone money and then they will hire you (not sure if this one is legal!)

The students each wrote a letter to Santa explaining why their reindeer was the best candidate.  I will post pictures once these are complete.

We also continued ways to represent numbers in Math.  Leonie and Ana made a little report for us during calendar time.

I've posted some pictures from gym today (castle dodgeball).

Nov. 23

Today we took some time to work on a GoNoodle called “Weather the Storm”.  We discussed being flexible, bending our branches, adjusting, digging in our roots and remaining strong.  We need to remain calm during times of trouble and stay focused. We may loose a few leaves but that’s ok.  It was a great GoNoodle time, it helped to calm and center our class before we began math.

In Math we continued representing the number 23 in a variety of ways.  Leonie started the lesson by putting the number 23 up on the calendar and then making the number 23 using the 10s and 1s rods.  Parker, Alex M and Vian then showed the class 3 ways make $.23 using coins.  I’ve included pictures in todays blog so you can get a clearer picture.

I would like students to attend the parent/teacher interviews this week (if it’s possible for you).  Students can always be excused into the learning commons if we need to talk privately.

Thank you for your continued blog support.

November 22, 2016

Thanks for checking in, it's hard to know how many people are reading the blog! I do really appreciate and understand the time it takes for parents to read and comment on it.  It is an administrative expectation at ALL teachers at EG blog twice a week.

Some quick updates;

Home reading- students should be bringing home 5 new books every Monday.  If your child has forgotten their books please log onto Raz Kids and read 2 books there.

Math- Students are working one ways to represent a number.  We are practicing with number lines, tens and ones cubes, money, number words and tallying.  We are also learning to use the terms "greater than, less than and equal too".

Language Arts-We continue to work on our daily writing.  A lot of our writing has been around healthy living.  As your child about the 3 food groups and taking care of your teeth.

Science- We are finishing our unit on Liquids and will be staring Magnetism.

Sneaky Question!

What is 1 way to conserve water????

Wednesday November 16th

Happy 7th Birthday Vian, your classmates LOVED your rainbow cupcakes!

A HUGE thank you to Jamie at Food Impact for teaching our class about nutrition.  She talked about looking at food labels and choosing a variety of foods to fuel your body.  Most of the students tried out WOW butter on their finger or pita.  All students enjoyed stuffing their own pitas and then stuffing their bellies!

Our class collected a total of 259 items for the Veterans Food Bank.  We are now collaborating with our buddies to create a structure that represents our Veterans in room 12.   A timbit party is on it's way!
