In Math we are continuing to look at numbers, place value, representing numbers and using referents to estimate a set of objects. The picture below is an example of how we use referents. On the far right side the students saw 6 blocks. They knew that the middle set was greater than 6. Some students guessed double the amount (12) while others guessed in the high 30s. We figured out there were 39 in the middle group. We then looked at a 3rd group. By using the first 2 groups are referents students were able to estimate that this group must have many more than 39.
In gym we played floor hockey. Two of our grade 1 boys were fearless and wanted to play in net for the entire time! You couldn't pay me to play in net! Students worked on keeping their sticks on the ground when running and shooting. They also worked on passing to open players and getting into an open position.

ReplyDeleteCow magnets is shaped like a pill and is used when the cow is not supposed eat something. The farmer will shoot the cow magnet into the cow's mouth and the magnet goes to the stomach to attract nails or screws that a cow accidentally ate. The magnet stays inside the cow to keeps the screws or nails from poking a hole in the cow. Or else the cow will bleed and die.
