Today we read a non-fiction picture book called "Knut". The story is about a little Polar Bear who is born in the Berlin Zoo. Once the story was read we broke it down into 3 parts, B-M-E. Students then began to illustrate and write about all 3 of the parts. Soon we will begin writing our own stories!
Below is a clip of Knut.

In Math we worked on ordering numbers by both the number symbol and word. We did this in teams of 2 as a race. The grade 2s have begun looking at and working on double digit addition. The grade 1s are working on "counting up" for addition.
In Science we have begun a new unit called "Hot and Cold". We learned that a thermometer is the tool used to measure temperature.
Special Question -
What is one liquid that used to be inside of a thermometer?

pee and mercury. Most people didnt want to use mercury because it was too expensive and they wanted to use pee because it was free
ReplyDeletePee, it doesn't freeze or boil.
ReplyDeleteLeonie
Pee because it does not freeze below zero. Alcohol for the Same reason.
ReplyDeletepee was first but it wasn't the most reliable so they used alcohol and alcohol wasn't reliable so they used mercury cause then it was the most reliable one. with pee, your actual temperature might be 7 and the thermometer might say 25. with the alcohol, you actual temperature might be 7 and the thermometer would say 12... and mercury, if your actual temperature was 7, the thermometer would say 7! parker
ReplyDeletePee.

They used pee because it was free.-Ana
ReplyDeletepee because it does not freeze below 0 and does not boil at 100-brett
ReplyDeletePee because it was cheap and didn't freeze below 0 and it didn't boil at high temperatures.
ReplyDeleteHugo
Pee. They used it because it was free and when mixed with alcohol it would go up in the thermometer and it would go down in the thermometer. When the liquid goes up it's because it is very hot, and when it goes down it's because it is very cold.
