January Updates

Just look at the smiles!  I know that it has been difficult for many students to come back to school after the winter break.  The smiles will tell you that the students have adjusted to life back at school.

In literacy we have been focusing on our inferencing skills (reading between the lines) to answer questions.  This is a very important reading and life skill.  Examples are;
-Dad said "let's get going the sun is almost up and we don't want to miss our flight" Q- What time of day is it?
-Maria said "please keep reading we're almost at my favourite part" Q- Has Maria read this book before?
-It's Jill's candles and cake day today. Q- what special day is it for Jill?

Students read a paragraph and underline the important parts that indirectly answer the inferencing question.

In Math the grade 3s are working on measurement and the grade 2s are working on data management (graphing) and number concepts to 100.

In Science students are still exploring hearing and sound.  We have learned about ways we can communicate without sound, universal sounds and ways that we can hurt and harm our ears.  We are nearly done presenting our musical instruments and ALL of the students have done an impressive job creating, building and playing on them.

In Social Studies we have been learning about Global Citizenship and will begin talking about The Rights of a Child and humanitarian groups such as the UN, Red Cross and the World Wildlife Fund for Nature.

In Art we have created self-portraits to go along with our "I Am" poems.

Enjoy the photos!
