Thursday September 7th

It's only the second day of school but great learning has been happening!

Today we;
-silent read in the courtyard (before the wasps came out)!
-worked on writing a list of things we did this summer.  The focus was on using commas.
-continued working on our "My Summer" paragraphs from yesterday.  We are working at taking one idea and expanding it into 4-5 sentences. For example - "I went camping with my cousins.  There wasn't enough room in the trailer so we were forced to sleep in a tiny tent. The tent was pretty uncomfortable to sleep in and I kept tossing and and turning.  On the second day a bear sauntered through our campsite, we were terrified and decided to pack up and head to the safety of a hotel!"  The blue words show juicy words that have been added.  The students show their juicy words by circling them.
-did a large group read on Raz Kids about the Grand Canyon
-in Math learned what the "core" or "root" of a pattern is.  It the the first segment of a pattern before it begins to repeat itself.  Students worked in groups to identify cores of patterns.
-in Gym we did a warm up called Marty Mountain Climber and then did relay races using the scooters.
-in Social Studies we talked about families and how they are each different.  We practiced writing our first, middle and last names and drawing our families.

We will begin our TWAS books and weekend home journals next week.

Sneaky Question:

Can you write a sentence with at least one juicy word?
