Monday Sept. 25th

The grade 2s used their "big" voices and said their lines at the assembly this morning.  It was tough to be the first class to present especially without any practice but everyone really did very well.

When we got back to class we wrote out 2nd "I see, I think, I wonder".  We discussed what a 1, 2 3 and 4 on the report card would be.  Our examples were;
1)  I see a dog. (1)
2)  I see a big brown dog. (2)
3)  I see a big brown dog upside down in a bathtub. (3)
4)  I see a golden retriever relaxing in a bubble bath outside in the yard. (4)

Giving the children examples of writing gives them a bench line and basis to work towards.

We also learned about the life cycle of a potato today and learned that it is the 4th most harvested resource in the world.  We will be picking lots of potatoes on Wed!

In the afternoon we completed our life cycles, went to music, played soccer in gym, shared our home journals and wrote out our spelling words.

This week's spelling words- these words are review and should be fairly easy for everyone (except volunteer and community).  The Spelling test will be on Friday.

Question of the day:

How do you grow a potato?  How many potatoes might you get from 1 potato?

  1. You let the potato rot and then eyes will be popping out of potato and then you plant it. One potato can make 10-20 potatoes. Angelo

  4. You grow a potato on a big farm. You get yourself a potato by buying it, then put it in the fridge until it grows these little eyes that are purple and green. Then you stick the whole thing, potato and eyes, in the ground. You cover it with dirt and then it will grow little trees in the ground, getting bigger and bigger and bigger, and then about 30 or 40 potatos form, and then when there are lots of big leaves you pick the plant and you might find little bugs on it so just shew them away. And now you have a big batch of potatos to wash and eat. I love when I have potato chips!! From, Blu

  5. When you leave a potato in a cupboard it should start to grow eyes. Then plant in dirt. It should grow shouts from eyes.

    Lots of potatoes can come from 1 potato.
