Visit from the Police, Floating and Sinking and Soccer

Today we had a special guest in our room!  Constable Heartman of the CPS is our schools liaison officer.  He came to talk to our class about ways that we can be good citizens.  Many of us were very curious about his uniform.  He went through some of the tools on his belt with us.

We learned;

-A radio is used to  communicate.  The Police are like a big sports team, they all need to talk together and make game plans.

-Handcuffs are the adult version of a timeout.

-A baton can be used for breaking the window on a car when the car has been in an accident and the doors are stuck.  Then the PO cleans out the window and helps the trapped person escape the car.

-A flashlight, helps look under things/places and is used to see in dark places.

-The notebook is very important, it is used every day.  Officers take notes in their notebooks.  They record the people they spoke to,  what they said, dates, times and other pieces of important information.

-A badge to identify the officer.

In 1885 the Calgary Police Service Formed.  That was when the #1 badge was given out.

Please see notes in the agenda in regards to building materials for boats and the field trip to the Calgary International Children's Festival.
