Monday October 15th

Dear Parents,

Thank you for sharing your contact information with our room Moms Karla and Stacey.  This will help to keep you updated, sign up for volunteer jobs and keep in touch with each other.

Updates for this week and topics covered in class;

-today we listened to a Blue Jays parody song.  We then wrote in our visual journals.  No the Blue Jays are not part of the curriculum.  The idea is to give children interesting topics to write about.  I am looking to see if the kids can; recall information, re-write what they’ve heard and seen in their own words, relate the topic to their personal experiences/lives and finally write simple to complex sentences.
-in Math some of the grade 2s have completed patterns using perler beads (all students will have the opportunity to do this)
-all grade 1s and some grade 2s were able to successfully log onto their Mathletics accounts.  Students are encouraged to log onto Mathletics at home.
-Science was so much fun.  We dropped water droplets onto wax paper and paper towels.  We noticed the wax paper repelled the water while the paper towel absorbed it.  With the wax paper we could drag the water droplets around, split them into smaller droplets and add join them to form larger droplets.
-Social Studies we continue to learn about Calgary’s early beginnings.
-all students are now working in their guided reading groups.  Each child has a personal key ring.  Each week words from their guided reading books are added to their key rings.  These words are used to build vocabulary, help with writing and increase sight words.

Wed. is our community walk. We will be looking at 2 century homes and the old TB Sanitarium.
