Happy Birthday to Hugo who turned 7 today!  The class was spoiled with delicious chocolate chip blondie bars from Hugo.

Today we discussed many ways that we could sort ourselves.  We were able to sort our whole class into 4 groups based on out shoes (laces, laces and Velcro, Velcro, and pull on shoes).  It was neat to see the kids one by one figure out how they each fit into a sorting rule.  We also drew some foods on the white board and tried to see different ways we could sort them.

I’ve added some pictures of the students work to see how sorting can be done.  The expectation is that the grade 1s are able to sort into 2 groups and the grade 2s sort into 3 groups.  When sorting it’s important to note that groups will almost NEVER be equal.

In Social Studies we began talking about Calgary’s origin and how it was settled.  We liked looking at pictures of Earl Grey School from over 100 years ago.  It was also really cool to hear that one of our very own classmates Grandfather had a VERY important role with the school board when the original structure was torn down.

(I'm having some issues uploading the photos, I will try again tomorrow).
